I will certainly continue my relentless search of the best happy hour in Portland, but last night I found one that is hard to beat. On Thursday nights, the Cheerful Tortoise downtown has $1 beers and $2 wings (for six) from 8-11 PM. Wow!

We actually went for the early in the evening happy hour that the Cheerful Tortoise has daily (weekdays). From 3-6 PM draft beers are $3.25 and selected drafts are $3 plus there is a happy hour food menu (the hummus platter is really good and only $2). We were discussing whether or not to stay and watch the Blazers game or if we should go elsewhere when the Thursday night special caught our attention- decision made!

So here is how the special works- it is a little complicated. From 8-8:30 there is a special bar that serves a select microbrew or Coors Light for $1 a beer. You can buy more than one at a time. From 8:30-9:30 all drafts are $1. From 9:30 to 11, all domestic drafts are $1. I think that the select microbrew at the special bar may be $1 until 11 as well but I was not certain. All wings are $2 for six from 8-11 and they have about ten sauces to choose from. I think my favorite was the Hawaii 5-0 but I am not certain as we ordered a bunch and the sauces kind of mixed together in my head. The hot and smoky dry rub is nice as well.

So more about the bar. Great sports bar with tons of flat screen tvs in every room. And there are three different rooms so you can find a place to sit even during popular events. Two of the rooms have fireplaces in them- which I think is pretty awesome. From the location, it would seem like a college bar, and during the Blazers game there were definitely some students, but the crowd is pretty mixed with young professionals and some blue collar workers hanging out as well. They also have pool tables.

Bummer about the Blazers going down last night. For a few minutes I thought we were going to pull it out. Ah well, hopefully we usd up all of our injuries for the decade this season and will come back and kick some ass next year. Now I need to start getting out to see some Beavers baseball before they get kicked out of town by the new fancy soccer team. Thirsty Thursday here I come!
